MLS: Seattle Sounders vs LAFC Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY Sports

That was a pounding. Seattle was off at everything and LAFC was on at everything. Wasn’t good enough, at every position. The storyline from that game will be the defensive mistakes that Seattle made, and there were definitely plenty, but the Sounders were second (or even third?) best at every spot tonight. Just simply not good enough.

The Sounders will head back to Seattle to see what the rest of the MLS regular season looks like, if there is one.

90th MINUTE OR WHATEVER: LAFC scored again.

83rd MINUTE: Welp. That’s it.

81st MINUTE: Joevin Jones is completely unplayable right now.

76th MINUTE: WILL BRUIN GOAL WILL BRUIN GOAL WILL BRUIN GOAL OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG

WATER BREAK: It’s looking grim. LAFC has 22 shots to Seattle’s 5. Bruin and Jones on.

61st MINUTE: It’s just as brutal during the start of the second half. It’s been all LAFC so far.

HALFTIME: Well, it can only get better I suppose! Seattle needs to come out in the second half with a plan to deal with the press and a plan to attack the space on the wings that LAFC is giving up.

40th MINUTE: Own goal. Latif Blessing banks it off the head of Shane O’Neill’s head. Can’t make mistakes like that against a team like LAFC.

35th MINUTE: Missed handball call on LAFC. Ball hits Tristan Blackmon’s hand off a Lodeiro free kick. No call.

29th MINUTE: Seattle is unable to deal with LAFC’s press so far. They’ve weathered the storm decently, but haven’t been able to create anything offensively.

LAFC’s attacking down their left with Diego Palacios and Rossi with a lot of efficiency.

13th MINUTE: LAFC scores on a penalty. Arreaga concedes the foul to give Diego Rossi the chance from the spot. An awful and unnecessary challenge at the top of the box.

LINEUPS: The Sounders go about as first choice as they can given the circumstances. Xavier Arreaga is back after clearing concussion protocol. Handwalla Bwana gets another start, hopefully he can continue his run of form. LAFC has a first choice lineup sans Carlos Vela, obviously.

The Seattle Sounders will look to advance to the quarterfinals of the MLSisBack Tournament when they take on LAFC Monday night. This will be the first encounter between the two clubs since the Sounders knocked off LAFC, 3-1, in the Western Conference Finals last season.

LAFC may be missing Carlos Vela but they have not missed a beat during the tournament. Diego Rossi enters this game with five goals scored in three games played; four of those five goals came against the LA Galaxy. The Sounders have scored only four goals in three games.
