RECAP: It was not a pretty first half by any stretch of the imagination but it didn’t need to be for the Sounders to leave with all three points. If you have Raul Ruidiaz on your team, you might have a good chance at winning in Portland. In nine career games against Portland, he has 7 goals and 2 assists after picking up two goals and an assist tonight. The Sounders have now won their last three regular-season trips to Portland, which is a first in the MLS era.

Shaking off the rust is nice. Now we turn around and play again on Wednesday.

85th MINUTE: Leerdam with the dagger.

83rd MINUTE: Raul loves scoring against Portland.

73rd MINUTE: WE HAVE A GOAL! Big game Raul comes up big.

HALF: It wasn’t a good half at all for either team. Portland managed to get some shots off, generating just 0.23 xG while Seattle did jack squat. Their only shot was Svensson’s 40 yard free kick.

This happened though:

6th MINUTE: Portland scores but it is ruled offside. Lucky break!

LINEUPS: The Sounders lineup with their best available starting XI with the late knock to Xavier Arreaga. Joevin Jones starts over Nouhou, which is an interesting decision. Perhaps Seattle will look to possess the ball against Portland — a team that likes to bunker.

The rest of the regular season starts tonight as the Seattle Sounders travel down to Portland to take on the Timbers. The two teams had very different experiences in the MLS is Back Tournament, with Portland managing to win it all. Of course, Seattle left the tournament with a lot of questions. Tonight is an opportunity for the Sounders to kickoff their classic second half of the season.
