Lodeiro has been in and out of the Oscar Tabarez’s squad since joining the Sounders in 2016. Most recently, he was part of the 2019 Copa America squad that bowed out in the quarterfinals after winning their group. Lodeiro started all three of the group stage matches but did not play in the quarterfinal match, in which Uruguay was eliminated in a penalty shootout.
For whatever reason, though, Tabarez has not called in Lodeiro for any of the six matches Uruguay has played since. Lodeiro has picked up 10 caps since joining the Sounders — appearing in both Copa America and World Cup qualifiers — but it’s starting to look increasingly unlikely that he’ll be receiving many more.
