POST-MATCH QUOTES & SOUNDBYTES: SEATTLE SOUNDERS 3 – LA GALAXY 1
SOUNDERS FC HEAD COACH BRIAN SCHMETZER – LINK TO SOUNDBYTES
On teams playing a high line against the Sounders:
“Yeah but on one of the goals I think we were almost stuck. You know they put pressure on Yeimar, it seemed like that was one of their tactics, allowing Yeimar to have some time on the ball. We were deep in the right-hand side and we got out, I think that was on Jordan’s [Morris] goal, I can remember, I’ll have to watch the film. Look, teams play how they want to play, I mean Guillermo [Barros Schelotto] does a good job, he’s got a good roster, tonight maybe wasn’t their night but you know, if teams decide to do that, that’s their business…I just think that our team played well tonight. I mean whether a team would have dropped off, whether a team would have pressed, whether a team would have had a high line. I could sense the mood in the locker room before the game and this is again one of the strengths of this team – we didn’t have a good performance last go. I mean, we were disappointed, and those guys know how to come back and put on a good performance. I think they could have beaten anybody tonight, in my opinion.”

On his second, chipped, goal:
“I was just talking to Jordan about that, actually. First, number one, making a good run, timing it so that I’m not offside and then number two, taking a good enough touch to keep my momentum going. Sometimes it’s really hard to take a good touch. Obviously, I’m not as fast as Jordan so that is so important. And then the third part in the sequence, that goal was, you know I may have taken one extra touch, I didn’t see Bingham and it was more of a reaction to Bingham coming out than me wanting to chip it and luckily it went in but just really proud of the team to get another victory away from home.”
SOUNDERS FC FORWARD JORDAN MORRIS – LINK TO SOUNDBYTES
On the surprising amount of space:
“I think that we knew that coming into the game that’s kind of how they like to play, they play with a little bit of a higher line. A lot of our game plan was trying to exploit that and get in behind especially early to open things up for us. I think you saw that we did a good job with that I think that you know Will [Bruin] came in and did such a great job tonight you know helping us get out of pressure. We always knew we had that outlet with Will [Bruin] and we would play him and he would battle two guys and hold them off and lay it off and those third man runs came from him holding the ball up and you know laying the ball off and then the runs in behind. So, I think you saw a couple of our goals came from that, a ball back and then a third man run. Obviously, you know it was a team effort and that was part of our game plan was to try to exploit that high line.”
