OL Reign has been making a flurry of moves in the National Women’s Soccer League. After announcing a trade yesterday to acquire Tziarra King, OL Reign announced a new player signing today.
Brazilian youth international Angelina has signed with the Reign on a three-year deal. She joins the Reign from Palmeiras in Brazil, where she made 14 appearances in 2020. The midfielder has represented various Brazilian youth national team squads and is the current U-20 captain. Born in New Jersey, Angelina will not require an international roster slot.
OL Reign head coach Farid Benstiti called the young 20-year-old an “exciting player with great talent and potential.”
“We feel that we can help her to continue to grow and that she will become an important player for our club,” Benstiti said, via a club release.
Angelina — whose full name is Angelina Alonso Costantino — joins a long and well-known list of Brazilians in the NWSL, but is the first to sign with the Reign in club history. Current Brazilian players in the NWSL include Marta of the Orlando Pride, Debinha of the North Carolina Courage and Camila of the Pride, who is currently on loan with Palmeiras.
“I am very happy and thankful for the opportunity to be part of OL Reign,” Angelina said in the same release. “New challenges are always important for me and for my career. I will give my best for OL Reign.”
Oh okay, OL Reign. OKAY. The now ex - Palmeiras joins the Tacoma based team. A great CM with the ability to both defend well, cover spaces and move the ball forward.
