The 2021 SheBelieves Cup concludes today with the third round of games. The early game (1 PM PT) features Canada against Brazil, while the United States takes on Argentina at 4 PM PT. Both games will air on FS1.

The USWNT is heavily favored to win the trophy for the second consecutive year, having gone 2-0-0 with a +3 goal differential. Canada and Brazil both sit on 3 points, while Argentina has yet to win. The US will lift the trophy if they draw or win against Argentina, or if the Canada/Brazil match ends in a tie. Should the US lose and the early game have a winner, the tournament winner will be decided by tiebreakers, starting with goal differential.

During matchday 2, the United States defeated Brazil, 2-0, thanks to an early Christen Press goal and a late insurance goal by Megan Rapinoe. Canada squeaked by Argentina, 1-0, with a goal by Sarah Stratigakis late in second-half stoppage time.

US head coach Vlatko Andonovski rotated his roster significantly in the second game, giving many opening-match starters such as OL Reign’s Megan Rapinoe a rest. In his press conferences Andonovski has hinted that he will likely continue to rotate as he assesses different combinations ahead of selecting an 18-player roster for the Olympics, and that no player’s spot on that roster is yet guaranteed.

Although Argentina is winless thus far in their SheBelieves Cup debut, they have shown they are more than capable of competing with the top teams for 90 minutes. Sadly, their midfield engine, Lorena Benítez, suffered an ACL injury in their last game and will be unavailable for the foreseeable future. Fortunately, two of their four players who were unavailable for the opening match due to Covid-19 protocols, Adriana Sachs and Eliana Stabile, have now been cleared to play and should be available as much-needed reinforcements.

In the early match a key question for OL Reign fans will be whether Quinn returns to Canada’s gameday roster. After showing well in the opening game against the United States, they were held out of Canada’s game against Argentina as a precaution after picking up a minor knock in training.
