The YachtCollege Mariner: A change in formation on our shores?

Brian Schmetzer is our first teacher.

Editor’s note: This is the first of a series that will chronicle the ongoing YachtCollege courses.

SOMEWHERE OUT AT SEA — Good morning fellow yachters and scholars, I hope the seas are finding you well on this spectacular sunny spring-ish day. Classes are in full swing and we’re happy to be back at school for another exciting quarter here at YachtCollege. Well, some of us are at least. A few of you don’t seem to have your sea legs quite yet. Let’s shake off the seasickness and dive into the fresh waters of our new set of classes!

Last night our first class, YC 101: Introduction to YachtCollege, kicked off our curriculum with a bang. Seattle Sounders Head Coach Brian Schmetzer gets us back into school spirit. A perfect way to bring us back, if I do say so myself.

If you were a late arriver or forgot to go to your first class all together, here’s a brief cliff notes of what happened last night. We started off the night talking about the old days, because what professor doesn’t love talking about when they used to be good at something rather than merely teaching about it? From there we went on to discuss the philosophy of tactics, which dovetailed nicely into a real world application for what we learn at school: how might the Sounders line up in 2021? Will there be more two forward setups for our team? Tune in to find out!

As a reminder, don’t forget to register for your future classes so you can graduate on time. The next class this week is FPW 202: Refined Wine-Tasting (Wed 3/17, 7pm PT), which has a lab cost of $60. There’s also a free version.

Thank you for reading today’s edition of The YachtCollege Mariner and don’t forget to be friendly to your student journalists!
