More of the world will get to jump on the hype train that is Nouhou. The Seattle Sounders left back is leaving preseason camp to join Cameroon in Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying. It is Nouhou’s first call to the full national team since November 2017. In 2019 he joined the Cameroon U23s.
Already qualified for the next round of Qualifying in Africa, Cameroon faces Cape Verde on March 26 and Rwanda on March 30. Cameroon not only qualified for the final tournament as hosts, they are dominating Group F with a 3-0-1, +6 record already. The full tournament was moved to January of 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer is excited for his left back, and also holds the same dream that many fans do.
“He’s done really well. He’s a great kid,” Schmetzer said in his weekly press conference. “I would love to have the stadium full when Nouhou scores his first goal. Let’s get fans back and get him a goal. He might run out of the stadium.”
Nouhou, and Tacoma Defiance forward Alec Diaz (with Puerto Rico) will miss Seattle’s first preseason match against Defiance on March 23, and are likely to miss the entirety of preseason friendlies due to quarantine regulations.
Both (if Diaz earns a First Team deal) should be ready for opening night on April 16 against Minnesota United.
