Let the knowledge Reign down with this YachtCollege course

Get schooled by OL Reign players Lu Barnes, Dani Weatherholt and Madison Hammond.

Sure, those general education credits are needed to graduate from college, but everyone knows that elective courses are where you learn and grow the most. And you’ll get quite the education during our newest #YachtCollege class: Join us Thursday, March 25 at 7 PM for RGN 253: Sports Heroines in Modern History.

March is Women’s History Month, and what better way to get schooled on the topic than an intimate conversation with three women making history in their sport? OL Reign players Dani Weatherholt, Lu Barnes, and Madison Hammond will get you hyped for the 2021 season and discuss the team’s efforts to address gender equity, racial justice, and environmental sustainability.

Barnes, a Reign original, remains a leader on OL Reign’s backline and spent time on loan in Sweden last fall. Dani Weatherholt is a midfielder who joined the team last year and gives each team she plays on a ton of hustle and consistency. Madison Hammond, meanwhile, showed her potential during her rookie season in 2020 — become the first Native American player to feature in the NWSL.

Your Ride of the Valkyries team of Jacob Cristobal, Susie Rantz and Steve Voght will dive into how these players — and OL Reign — are trying to do more than just talk about racial justice and environmental sustainability. They’re trying to drive action and solutions.

Because the players are busy preparing for the 2021 season, the conversation will be recorded in advance. Got questions for the players? Ask them using the #YachtCollege hashtag on Twitter, in the comment section below, or via this Google Form.

More YachtCollege Fun

Beyond RGN 253 on Thursday, there are still plenty of YachtCon classes to broaden your horizons. Wednesday’s ART 206: Adventures in Watercoloring still has room for those interested in auditing, as David Estrada joins MLS Watercolors as the celebrity student. PZA 007: Fashionable Pizza Making on Friday night at 7 PM still has tickets available. Paid students will receive ingredients for two pizzas and a 4-pack of Craft Casual (21 and older). All in attendance will get an education in pizza from Matt Storm of the Masonry.

Saturday is the final exam, where you can test your Puget Sound soccer chops in PUB 140: Knowledge Testing in Contest Format. Finally, Sunday night will feature GM 442: How to Maintain a Dynasty. Commencement speaker Garth Lagerwey will join Jeremiah Oshan to close out YachtCon: Back to School with an in-depth conversation and some opportunities for fun and charitable giving.
