It’s obviously early and it would be silly to read too much into a scrimmage against the second team, but Will Bruin and Fredy Montero appear to be developing a nice little partnership. Bruin had a goal and two assists, while Montero had two goals in what appears to have been a 5-1 win in the first of two 70-minute scrimmages between the Seattle Sounders and Tacoma Defiance on Tuesday. The Sounders appeared to have won the second game 3-0.
Bruin’s first goal was particularly nice, as it featured a beautiful outside of the boot pass from Nicolas Lodeiro. Bruin controlled well, made one touch around the goalkeeper and slotted it into the goal.
The most encouraging moment may have been the Sounders’ final goal of the first game. Montero and Bruin worked a nice give and go near the top of the penalty area that ended with Montero scoring his second goal.
Lodeiro added a goal and two assists of his own.
In the second game, Ethan Dobbelaere appears to have been the star. After Danny Leyva set up Xavier Arreaga for the opener, Dobbelaere factored into the second two goals. He assisted on the first and then finished off a breakaway to close it out.
