How to watch and listen to Sounders in 2021

Sounders will simulcast regional broadcasts to radio

Seattle Sounders broadcasts will look and sound very familiar in 2021. Once again, the main broadcast team will consist of Keith Costigan (play by play), Kasey Keller (color), and Steve Zakuani (analysis). Regional broadcasts will be aired on JOEtv, streamed on Amazon Prime and iHeartMedia carrying the radio call.

The most notable difference in 2021 will be the radio call being a simulcast of the regional TV broadcasts, a return to the format from 2009-2015. For the last four years, Matt Johnson had provided a dedicated radio play-by-play call with a rotating cast of color commentators. The upshot of the change is that for the 14 nationally broadcast games, Costigan, Keller, and Zakuani will provide a dedicated radio call.

El Rey 1360 will also provide Spanish-language radio calls and the team is still negotiating with KUNS to air some games on Spanish-language television.

“Our broadcast partners have always worked with Sounders FC to provide unfalteringly excellent coverage of the team to our fans, and we’re happy be able to continue these relationships in 2021,” said Sounders FC Owner & President of Business Operations Peter Tomozawa. “While we look forward to welcoming fans back to Lumen Field this year, 2020 reiterated the importance of not only providing varied broadcast options to those who love the team, but also making sure that those offerings are the highest quality possible. We have no doubt that our fans will enjoy another season of Sounders soccer, no matter how they are tuning in.”

As they’ve done in previous years, local broadcasts will include 30-minute pre- and post-match coverage and Q13 will air two “feature-length” Sounders specials over the course of the season. Brad Evans, Marcus Hahnemann, James Riley and Lamar Neagle will all contribute to that coverage.

Like they did for most of last year, the broadcast team will not travel for away matches and will instead call games from a studio in Seattle. They will supplement the “world feed” with a dedicated camera that can be used for replays and other Sounders-specific needs.
