Nicolás Lodeiro “will be involved” in Sunday’s top-of-the-table showdown with the LA Galaxy, Brian Schmetzer told KJR. The Seattle Sounders head coach also classified Fredy Montero as “day-to-day” and suggested Jimmy Medranda would also be fit enough to contribute.
“Nico will be involved in the match against the Galaxy,” Schmetzer said. “Montero is day-to-day, he’ll be close, but Nico and Medranda will be ready to go.”
Lodeiro has missed the first two regular-season matches of the season and was unable to participate in the last couple weeks of preseason training after straining his left quadriceps. The Sounders have managed reasonably well in his absence, claiming 4 points and scoring 5 goals in two matches against teams expected to contend for the top of the Western Conference this year.
Josh Atencio has effectively taken Lodeiro’s spot in the starting lineup with Cristian Roldan moving up to the No. 10 spot.
Given how well those two have played and that Lodeiro has only been able to fully resume training this week, it seems unlikely he be pushed into the starting lineup immediately.
