Nouhou’s impressive run of form has apparently caught the eye of the Cameroon national team, potentially setting him up to participate in World Cup 2022 qualification. Nouhou is among 28 players who Cameroon has called in for what appears to be a camp surrounding some yet-to-be-announced friendlies. The camp is scheduled to run from May 30-June 9 and will be held in Austria.
Although the Sounders play Austin FC on May 30, there’s a decent chance that Cameroon will allow Nouhou to report late, especially if he won’t miss any games as a result. The Sounders’ next match is not until June 19 against the LA Galaxy.
Getting called into this camp is a potentially significant development for Nouhou’s hope to make the 2022 World Cup. He has not been a regular participant in Cameroon senior national team, with just one senior national team cap to his name. Nouhou’s dominant form with the Sounders could push him into the squad.
Cameroon has yet to start the group stage of CAF’s qualifying, but are the top-seeded team in a group with Ivory Coast, Mozambique and Malawi. The winner of that group will advance to a 10-team final group, in which they’ll be drawn against one of the other nine group-stage winners. The five winners of those two-legged series will advance to Qatar.
