MLS: LA Galaxy at Seattle Sounders FC Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Sounders return to action with first place in the Western Conference and the Supporters’ Shield up for grabs, as any winner would potentially move to the top of the table of both.

This will be the second time the Sounders and Galaxy have faced off in 2021, with Seattle coming out on top 3-0 in the first meeting. Since then, the Galaxy have gone 3-1-0, while the Sounders have gone 3-0-2.

While still undefeated, the Sounders are coming off a pair of disappointing ties at home. In fact, the last time the Sounders played anything like their best was in the previous meeting with the Galaxy. They’ll be looking to get things going back in the right direction.

  • The Sounders have not lost to the Galaxy since 2018 and are 6-1-5 against their one-time bogey team since 2016.
  • The Sounders are off to their best start ever at 5-0-3 and are trying to become the first MLS team since 2017 to start with nine straight unbeaten (FC Dallas went 5-0-4 that year).
  • No team has allowed more shots on target than the Galaxy (50) and Jonathan Bond leads all goalkeepers with 41 saves.
  • Javier Hernandez continues to lead MLS with seven goals scored, none of which have come from the penalty spot. He’s also overperformed his non-penalty xG by more than anyone else (+2.5).
  • Raúl Ruidíaz is second in MLS scoring (6). He also leads MLS in xG (6.0).
