Nicolás Lodeiro wants to know who you are voting for this year. Max Aquino / Sounder at Heart

The Seattle Sounders come into their first-ever Leagues Cup appearance in a bit of an odd place. They’re still well-positioned in the MLS standings and are getting healthier, but they’re also in the midst of a three-game winless run and a five-game stretch in which they’ve gone 1-3-1, which followed a 13-game unbeaten streak to start the season.

Tigres UANL will certainly pose some challenges for the Sounders, even if they’re a bit diminished from the team that has established themselves as one of the best in the Western Hemisphere over the past decade or so, including a Concacaf Champions League title and a trip to the Club World Cup final earlier this year. Not only are they off to a 1-1-1 start in Liga MX play and coming off a 1-1 tie with Santos Laguna on Saturday, but among the players who didn’t travel are André-Pierre Gignac, Guido Pizarro, Carlos Salcedo and Luis ‘Chaka’ Rodríguez. Gignac has been one of the top scorers in Mexico since arriving from Marseille in 2015, while the others are all important parts of Tigres’ defense.

Both teams are likely to use mixed lineups that feature a few starters and some others who normally come off the bench. For the Sounders, that likely means a youth-heavy midfield bracketed by veterans at forward and in defense.

The winner of this game will advance to play the winner of Orlando City-Santos Laguna in the semifinals on Sept. 14-15. The final will be played at the brand-new Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sept. 22.
