Max Aquino / Sounder at Heart

FULLTIME: Despite making eight changes to the starting lineup from the weekend, the Seattle Sounders got a goal from Raúl Ruidíaz about 20 seconds after he entered and then held on to beat FC Dallas 1-0 on Wednesday. It was the Sounders’ sixth away win of the season, but the first time they’d won in Dallas since 2014.

FC DALLAS 0, SOUNDERS 1: Only moments after coming on, Nicolas Lodeiro and Raúl Ruidíaz combined to give the Sounders a lead. Lodeiro quickly found Ruidíaz in the box, his initial shot was blocked but he put the rebound off the underside of the crossbar for his 14th goal of the season.

HALFTIME: The Sounders got to halftime tied 0-0 and although FC Dallas had the better of the play on balance, Seattle arguably had the single best chance. Toward the end of the half, Nicolas Benezet found Kelyn Rowe at the back post but the open header went high and wide.

LINEUPS: The Sounders made eight changes to the lineup that beat the Portland Timbers 6-2 on Sunday, with Cristian Roldan, Xavier Arreaga and Shane O’Neill the only holdover starters.

After a brief spell of struggles, the Seattle Sounders seem to be back on track. They’ve scored nine goals in their past two games, a home win over reigning Concacaf Champions League winners Tigres UANL and a road win over the Portland Timbers.

Knowing that they have another game on Saturday, though, head coach Brian Schmetzer will likely rotate his lineup pretty heavily. We’re expecting to see as many as seven changes, which should leave plenty of firepower on the bench if it’s needed.

The Sounders have plenty of motivation. FC Dallas scored a late equalizer when these two teams faced off a couple weeks ago in Seattle, and the Sounders would surely like to get those two points back.

Dallas also looks a bit more vulnerable at home than they had been, coming off a 2-0 loss to Sporting KC that snapped an 18-game home unbeaten streak.

Notes

  • The Sounders have failed to win in their last 10 games at Toyota Stadium, a streak which dates back to 2014. That’s the second-longest run of away futility they’ve suffered in franchise history (they were winless in 11 straight road games against the LA Galaxy from 2010-15).
  • FC Dallas has scored a joint-MLS low one headed goal this season (tied with Houston and LAFC) while Seattle is one of two teams (Colorado) yet to allow a headed goal this season.
  • Ricardo Pepi leads FC Dallas with 8 goals scored, twice as many as the teenager with the next most goals (Caden Clark, 4). Pepi also ranks 12th in MLS with .65 goals scored per 90 minutes.
  • Fredy Montero is up to six goals on the season and now ranks 4th in MLS with .73 goals scored per 90. Ruidíaz leads MLS with 13 goals scored and is 6th with .71 per 90.
