Cristian Roldan voted MLS All-Star Captain

All of your #CaptainRoldan tweets paid off

Captain Roldan

Blood, sweat, and thousands of retweets: that’s the story of how Cristian Roldan was voted to be the captain of the MLS All-Star Team that will face Liga MX’s all-stars on Aug. 25 in Los Angeles.

Voting was open from Aug. 12-17, and Sounders fans waited no time to rack up the votes for #CaptainRoldan. Thanks to some sleuthing work, it looks like Cristian Roldan captured around 15,000 votes in that week, which is double the votes of the other three nominees -- LAFC’s Carlos Vela, LA Galaxy’s Chicharito, and Nashville’s Walker Zimmerman — combined.

The content that came out of this voting campaign was truly delightful. Here's a few of our favorite voting tweets:

Aside from the new hobby this gave all of us, our voting efforts meant a lot to Cristian. Asked about being one of the four nominations for All Star, Captain Roldan was already thanking people for the recognition as an All Star. “The fact that people are seeing what I’m doing on the field is something that I appreciate. So, thank you to everybody who’s been a part of it and made it happen.”

Thanks to the tireless work you all put in smashing that retweet button and sending #CaptainRoldan to the moon, we get to watch him take his rightful place as the captain of MLS, alongside his 5 other Sounders All-Star teammates.
