What was once the dreams of fans will be reality as Lumen Field hosts both OL Reign and Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday, August 29. Both teams face their biggest rivals — Portland. Included as part of the season ticket package for Sounders and with deep discounts for Reign season ticket members, this event will almost certainly be the biggest crowd in NWSL history, beating Portland.
OL Reign kick off the soccer events with their match against Portland Thorns at 4 PM PT. Up to 4th in the standings at a 7-7-1, +3 record, the Reign’s match against Portland is the third with Laura Harvey back in charge and is a huge test for the club stacked with Olympians (Quinn, Rapinoe, Lavelle, Angelina), international stars (Fishlock, Bouhaddi, Le Sommer, Marozsán), Originals (Barnes, Cox), and more. Thorns lead the league with a 8-4-3, +13 record. The match will air on Paramount+ for US fans, and on Twitch for international fans.
Reign are coming off a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Gotham.
In MLS action the Sounders kickoff at 7:30 PM PT. Again leading the MLS West and 2nd in the Shield standings, Seattle is 12-3-6, +18. The second Cascadia Cup match of 2021, the Sounders take on a reeling Portland Timbers side that is 7-10-3, -12, with only one win in their last seven games. With six All Stars (C.Roldan, A.Roldan, Nouhou, Yeimar, João Paulo, Ruidíaz), a now-healthy Lodiero, and their top scorer in team history (Montero), Sounders FC are as stocked with talent as ever before.
Sounders just beat the Columbus Crew 2-1, also winning after falling behind.
Piled atop all of the soccer action are three different concert sites (North Plaza, West Concourse, East Concourse), buskers, a beer garden with games for Sounders season ticket holders, recognition for the Olympians, a Golden Scarf ceremony and more.
So far the only announced act at the set of concerts is The Black Tones, who are part of this season-long celebration of Jimi Hendrix.
