New mask, re-entry policy announced for Lumen Field doubleheader

Re-entry is now allowed between matches, and masks are required indoors.

Supporter outreach to the Seattle Sounders and OL Reign worked, as the Sounders announced on Tuesday adjustments to their masking and re-entry policies for Sunday’s Reign-Sounders doubleheader.

Masks required indoors

Effective immediately, the doubleheader will have a new mask policy. All fans age five and older must wear a mask in all indoor areas of the stadium, regardless of vaccination status. This policy includes the club level, west field plaza, south main concourse and restrooms throughout the building. Fans are also “strongly encouraged” to wear masks in all areas of the stadium — even outdoors.

“While Sounders FC has been thrilled to welcome fans back to matches this season, we recognize that this pandemic has not ended. This updated masking guidance provides one important way for us to protect ourselves and each other, but our entire organization continues to urge anyone who is eligible to be vaccinated and has not yet gotten their shot to do so as soon as they can,” said Sounders FC Owner and President of Business Operations Peter Tomozawa.

This step doesn’t go as far as some fans have requested, however. Other teams, including the Timbers and Thorns, are now requiring proof of vaccination or a negative test for all matches.

Re-entry now permitted

After listening to fan feedback, the club is now allowing fans who enter Lumen Field for the first match — featuring OL Reign vs. Portland Thorns FC — to exit the stadium at any time between 5:15 and 6:45 PM PT from the northwest gate or southwest gate before returning at a later time to re-enter for Sounders FC vs. Portland Timbers. Fans must scan out at these specific gates in order to re-enter the stadium later.

If you decide to remain at Lumen Field between matches, there are a number of activities planned to keep you entertained, including three live music stages located throughout the stadium. In the North Plaza, Sounders Season Ticket Members can also take advantage of The Alliance Member Experience, a VIP area that features a beer garden, lawn games and a dedicated scarf tag station, where fans can get a limited-edition fabric tag that can be sewn onto a scarf immediately by one of the dedicated on-site seamstresses or taken home.

More details can be found on the Sounders website.

OL Reign vs. Portland Thorns FC kicks off a 4 PM PT on Sunday, August 29, followed by Sounders FC vs. Portland Timbers at 7:30 PM PT.
