Unsurprisingly, another Seattle Sounders player has been called into their national team. Xavier Arreaga will join Ecuador for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers on Sept. 2, 5 and 9. Although Arreaga has regularly been called into Ecuador’s team, he did not play at the Copa America over the summer.

As with fellow national-team call-ups Raúl Ruidíaz (Peru), Cristian Roldan (United States) and Alex Roldan (El Salvador), Arreaga should return to the Sounders before their next game against Minnesota United on Sept. 11.
If Arreaga is unable to play for whatever reason against Minnesota, the Sounders will be without one of their top defenders. Arreaga has already played more for the Sounders than he has in either of his previous two seasons and has responded with increasingly consistent performances.
The good news is that the Sounders seem to be well-positioned to weather his absence, as Nouhou should be fully back from his injury and Abdoulaye Cissoko has played well when called upon.
