After beating two of Liga MX’s best teams over the last 10 years, the Seattle Sounders will again have their work cut out for themselves when they face Club Léon in the Leagues Cup final next Wednesday. Léon handled Pumas UNAM 2-0 on Wednesday to clinch their spot in the final after dismantling Sporting KC 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
Léon currently sits third in the Liga MX table and has consistently been among the top teams since their most recent promotion following the 2014 season. Among their notable achievements was winning the 2020 apertura title.
They are led by Ecuador’s Angel Mena, who is tied for second in Liga MX with four goals this year. He has 44 goals and 20 assists over the previous three seasons with Léon.
Léon will play Juarez — Liga MX’s last-place team — on Saturday before heading to Las Vegas for the final. That game will kick off at 7 PM.
