Claudia Dickey signs contract extension through 2028

Fresh off being called into U.S. national team camp, Seattle Reign goalkeeper Claudia Dickey has signed a multi-year contract extension, the club announced on Thursday. Terms of the deal, which will keep her in Seattle through the 2028 NWSL season, were not disclosed. Dickey has three shutouts this season and leads the league in goals prevented, conceding 5.1 fewer goals than the team’s expected goals against stat would indicate.

“I’m incredibly excited to continue my journey with the Reign,” said Dickey in a team release. “My teammates and the coaching staff push me every day to be the best version of myself, and I’m looking forward to continuing to grow and compete at the highest level here in Seattle.”

Dickey was originally drafted by Seattle with the 20th overall pick in the 2022 NWSL Draft, and spent her first year as a pro serving as a backup to Phallon Tullis-Joyce. In 2023, she played in half the team’s Challenge Cup matches, keeping clean sheets in all three outings. She took over as starting goalkeeper in league play in August 2023 and, aside from missing some time last season due to injury, has held the starting spot ever since. She ranks second in the league in catches (36) and aerial duels won (15), third in goals-against average (1.09), and fourth in save percentage (74.5%), among goalkeepers with at least 30 appearances since August 2023.

“We’re thrilled to extend Claudia’s contract and continue building with her as part of our core,” said Reign General Manager Lesle Gallimore. “She’s shown tremendous growth and commitment to the club, and her presence both on and off the pitch strengthens our culture and ambition. Claudia is an incredibly talented goalkeeper with significant upside – her athleticism, shot-stopping ability and command of the box continue to evolve, and we believe her best is still to come. Her work ethic and competitiveness are exactly what we value at the Reign.”

“I can't see myself being anywhere else,” Dickey told reporters ahead of the team's match against the Washington Spirit. “This is where I want to be because I know the environment, I know what it gets out of me, and I know that I'm pushed every day. Everyone around me here is what makes it so special, and the fans and just the city in general, it's definitely become a home and I'm excited for the future.”
