The 1990s are alive in Seattle
The era of Zubaz, Hypercolor and Grunge will be making a comeback as the Seattle Sounders celebrate the release of “The Archive Collection” that is highlighted by a third kit that pays homage to the club’s first title in 1995. To mark the occasion, the Sounders will host a series of events that include pregame festivities ahead of the July 16 match against the Colorado Rapids and the July 19 match against the San Jose Earthquakes. KEXP will also curate a playlist that amps up the 1990s vibe.
Ahead of the Earthquakes match, the club will honor the 1995 A-League squad that finished the regular season tied for the most points and won the league title. The Sounders would repeat as champions in 1996 and then added USL-1 titles in 2005 and 2007. Alumni from that 1995 team include Marcus Hahnemann, league MVP Peter Hattrup and Chance Fry, all of whom are expected to be in attendance at the Earthquakes game.
The centerpiece of the event is the unveiling of a third jersey that will be worn this year. It was leaked over the weekend and appears to be bear a strong resemblance to the jersey the Sounders wore in 1994.
