Reign Select Defender Kendall Romine With Final Pick of the Draft

Seattle stays on the West Coast for their second, and final, pick of the 2015 Draft.

Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY Sports

With the last pick of the 2015 NWSL Draft, the Reign picked Stanford central defender Kendall Romine. The fifth-year senior was the central anchor for the Cardinal, who had the 8th best defense in the country by goals against and made it to the College Cup semifinals last season. She missed much of her first few Stanford seasons with injuries (like the Reign's earlier pick Havana Solaun), but was injury free her senior year.

With the Reign, Romine would likely wait behind Kendall Fletcher and Lauren Barnes, and her place on the roster may come down to whether Laura Harvey sees the returned Amanda Frisbie as a central defender or an attacker. With Kate Deines traded away in the offseason and if Frisbie moves up the field, there are places available on the Reign roster, which would make Romine the rare last pick in the draft to make the regular season roster.
