USWNT 23 Stories - Abby Wambach

The currently clubless but kind-of Reign player talks about motivation as she prepares for the upcoming World Cup.

Leading up to the 2015 World Cup, US Soccer is profiling each of the players on the US women's national team roster with a short, well-produced video interview on some topic, soccer-related or otherwise.

Kind-of-sort-of-maybe-some-day Seattle Reign forward Abby Wambach refrained from talking about her upbringing or her family (mostly). Instead, in true Wambach-ian fashion, her focus is one hundred percent on winning with the national team. She spoke about how failure (including a brutal late loss in a championship game) motivated her as she grew up and continues to motivate her today.

Wambach, whose NWSL rights are now held by Seattle after the Sydney Leroux trade, isn't currently playing club soccer but is instead preparing full time for the World Cup in Canada in June. Next week she joins the rest of the national team for a series of friendlies leading up to the World Cup. Whether or not she plays with the Reign once the World Cup is over is very much an open question.

The videos for the other 22 players can be seen here.
