The first official regular season roster for the Reign was announced today, and it doesn't contain any surprises. As expected, the team is utilizing all 20 roster spots (an NWSL team can sign as few as 18 to get cap relief) and all 4 international spots. Notably Abby Wambach does not make the roster, though her NWSL rights are still held by Seattle.
The one twist is that they are carrying midseason addition Katrine Veje on the official roster for the full year, either because they have to or to avoid midseason complication to make room for her. That means that there was really only one roster spot available to the army of trialists who worked with the team in preseason, and it went to Havana Solaun, the team's top draft pick (who unfortunately injured her ankle in the team's last preseason match and may be out for a while).
The team also has the chance to add some amateur players on an as-needed basis through the season, and we'd expect that to include goalkeeper Caroline Stanley. The rookie from USC played in both preseason matches and the Reign will need a backup keeper on the bench when Hope Solo is away on national team duty.
