US Women vs Ireland Game Thread

World Cup tune-up begins in San Jose with three Reign players in the starting lineup against Ireland.

Today we have the first match of the "Send-off Series" — the pack of friendlies the US will use to tune up for this summer's World Cup. In this Mothers' Day matchup the US is taking on Ireland at San Jose's Avaya Stadium. Kickoff is shortly after noon and it'll be televised on Fox Sports 1.

Reign players Megan Rapinoe, Hope Solo, and Abby Wambach are all starting in the match, with Rapinoe wearing the captain's armband. Wambach will be starting up top alongside Amy Rodriguez with the Portland Thorns' Alex Morgan nursing an injury. Rapinoe is starting in her usual spot on the left wing, opposite Christen Press on the right.

Following an underwhelming calendar year and qualification campaign the US will be using the matches this spring to re-establish themselves as one of the top teams in the world. They'll want a big win over a relatively lowly Ireland team at home to start that process.
