When the Ride of the Valkyries team began brainstorming new t-shirt designs, we wanted a way to honor the Reign's two World Cup champions: Hope Solo and Megan Rapinoe. We went back and forth on many ideas, but one rose to the top pretty quickly: Megan Jalapeño.
Here's the backstory: I've been bringing my 8-year-old niece and 5-year-old nephew to Seattle Reign games this year, and they've fallen in love with the team. My nephew is rather creative, and decided that one of his favorite players, Megan Rapinoe, needed a nickname.
He loved her dramatic celebrations, her fancy footwork, and her spicy moves. Megan Jalapeño was born.
The design is a literal translation of the nickname, with a nod to Pinoe's outtake photo for Sports Illustrated.
