While other players may be looking for loan spells in Australia and abroad to keep in shape during the excruciatingly long NWSL offseason, Seattle Reign FC’s Naho Kawasumi will be keeping busy in Japan this fall. Seattle Reign FC confirmed today that Naho was loaned out to INAC Kobe for the remainder of the Nadeshiko League season.

Reporter Jeff Kassouf shared the news on Twitter this morning, and Naho confirmed via a blog post. A club source told Sounder at Heart that Naho remains under contract with Seattle Reign FC and is expected to return for 2017.

With the exception of this season and her 2014 loan to Reign FC, Naho has played professionally for INAC Kobe Leonessa since 2008. In 2013, she was named league MVP, was the second-leading scorer behind Reign FC’s Bev Yanez, and was on the league’s Best XI roster from 2010 to 2013. Naho also helped lead INAC to three consecutive league titles from 2011-2013.

The club currently sits in second in the Nadeshiko League, with 31 points and a 10-5-1 record and two regular season matches remaining. INAC will also be competing in the Empress Cup, an elimination tournament that runs from October 22 through December 25. The club won the competition in 5 of the last 6 years, and Naho hopes to help contribute to another championship title.

After an emotional farewell this summer, fans in Japan are likely thrilled to have Naho return. Just like Seattle Reign FC fans can’t wait to have her back next season.
