The SheBelieves Cup kicks off today with a double-header in Tampa, Florida. The first match, France versus Germany, begins at 2:00 p.m. PT, but will not be streamed or broadcast on TV. At 4:30 p.m., the U.S. will face a rising England team in a match that airs on FS1.
2015 marked a historic run for England, a team currently listed #5 in the FIFA World Rankings. Before the World Cup, England had never made it past the quarterfinal round. But in 2015 — on their way to a historic third-place finish — England defeated Norway, Canada(!), and Germany(!!!).
Despite Megan Rapinoe still being out injured, the Seattle Reign are back up to two representatives on the team, thanks to central defender Lauren Barnes earning her first senior national team call-up. And Hope Solo once again should start in goal.
The SheBelieves Cup will serve as an important test for the four national teams, three of which are preparing for the Olympics this summer (England is not going to be in the Olympics, as Great Britain sends a unified Olympic roster, and England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland opted not play as a single team).
