At 4:00 p.m. PT, Seattle Reign FC kick off against the Western New York Flash, a team on the rise that currently sits in second in the NWSL. It's a battle between the top-scoring offensive side and the top defense in the league.
Both teams are coming off a 2-0 win at home, with WNY defeating a Chicago Red Stars team that has performed well in the first half of the season, but struggles without their national team players.
The Reign will be without Hope Solo, while WNY will be missing Samantha Mewis, Jaelene Hinkle, Alanna Kennedy, and possibly Abby Erceg, who have all been called up by their national teams prior to the Olympics.
Seattle has struggled this year playing in the heat, perhaps because their style of play calls for a lot of quick movement and possession. The good news? It's supposed to be about 76 degrees in Rochester at the time of kickoff, which is warm but certainly not unbearable.
If Seattle wins today, depending on what happens in the rest of the league, they could move into a playoff position. These points in July are critical before the league takes a rest during the Olympics.
