Reign FC goalkeeper Madalyn Schiffel announces retirement

She retires with a perfect record in NWSL.

Seattle Reign FC goalkeeper Madalyn Schiffel has announced her retirement from professional soccer, completing a two-year professional career that saw her play with Avaldsnes IL in the Norwegian Toppserien in 2016 before coming to Seattle as part of a trade with the Washington Spirit last November.

Schiffel made one appearance this season, starting in Reign FC’s 3-2 victory over the Spirit in the final game of the season. She made seven saves in the match, including several challenging parries that helped earn her side the full three points. Schiffel was also on the bench as Haley Kopmeyer’s back-up for 20 matches.

Reign FC also announced today that they have exercised Kopmeyer’s contract option for 2018 and offered a new contract to Australian international goalkeeper Lydia Williams.
