On Sunday, June 11, the U.S. Women’s National Team takes on Norway in its second match of a two-game European road trip. The match kicks off at 10:15 AM PT on FOX.
Seattle Reign FC’s Megan Rapinoe was called up by USWNT Coach Jill Ellis for the friendlies, and saw about one minute of playing time in the 1-0 U.S. win over Sweden. She starts today’s match on the bench once again. The U.S. squad’s overall play in that match against Sweden was disjointed, with a number of unconnected passes.
The team struggled to adjust to the high pressure that Sweden rolled out and find a rhythm. Norway is another team with speed and talent in the attack. It will be a good test for Ellis and the squad to see how they adjust.
Norway, currently ranked 11th in the world, has one of the best attackers in the world in Ada Hegerberg. The 21-year-old was just named BBC Women’s Footballer of the World, and she has amassed 38 goals in 61 caps for Norway, including 10 in EURO qualifying.
The U.S. and Norway are two of only four countries to have won a Women’s World Cup and only two of three nations to have won both a World Cup and an Olympic gold medal. Norway also has had the most success historically against the USWNT—defeating the U.S. 19 times (with 15 of those games being played between 1987-2000).
