Megan Rapinoe has been voted NWSL Player of the Month for July by the NWSL Media Association. Her five goals this month helped earn Seattle Reign FC 7 points from four matches.

Rapinoe bookended the month with a pair NWSL Player of the Week awards on her way to being named July’s Player of the Month, stopping Sky Blue FC’s Sam Kerr from winning the award for the third month in a row.

Rapinoe has had a breakout season after missing most of 2016 due to a knee injury. Her form this season has been nothing short of electric, as she currently leads the league in goals with 12 through 15 games. She also joins Portland Thorns FC’s Nadia Nadim as one of only two players with multiple hat tricks in their NWSL careers.

If Rapinoe keeps scoring at her current rate, she has a very good chance of taking a record away from former Reign teammate Kim Little. In 2014 Little set the NWSL single season scoring record with 16 goals. With 9 games left to play, Rapinoe needs only 5 more goals to claim the record for herself.

Rapinoe was called up to the USWNT roster for the Tournament of Nations, which kicks off on July 27th at CenturyLink Field in Seattle. Before the US plays Australia, it will be Japan and Brazil going head-to-head. While Rapinoe didn’t see much time on the field during the USWNT’s friendlies in Sweden and Norway earlier this year, her current form will make it difficult for head coach Jill Ellis to not give her significant minutes against Australia, Brazil and Japan.
