In the third move of the day for Seattle Reign FC, the club announced on Wednesday that Scottish international defender Rachel Corsie has been waived.

Corsie joined Reign FC prior to the 2015 season after one season with Notts County in the FA Women’s Super League. She appeared in 14 matches in 2015 for a stingy Reign FC defense that surrendered only 21 goals in a 20-game season, leading to their second-consecutive NWSL Shield, and also contributed two goals.

In 2016 Corsie made 12 appearances (11 starts) and scored one goal for a defense that again conceded only 21 goals in 20 matches, but she was sidelined with a knee injury for the second half of the season and did not return to competitive play until the following spring. Last year she made 14 appearances (12 starts), but continued to rehabilitate and return to fitness for much of the early season. She recently underwent exploratory surgery to further address her knee injuries.

“Rachel was a special player for this club and will be missed,” said Reign FC owner Bill Predmore in a club release. “Rachel played a role in some of the club’s biggest moments and has been a part of many special memories in and around the club. It is difficult to see her go, but she departs with our appreciation and deepest respect for all she contributed to the organization.”
