After a 1-0 victory against Germany, made possible thanks to a Megan Rapinoe goal, the United States continues its SheBelieves Cup play against France on Sunday. The match kicks off at 9:00 AM PT on ESPN2.

Seattle Reign FC forward Megan Rapinoe earns the start again for the USWNT, while fellow Reign FC teammate Allie Long is available off the bench. New Seattle Reign striker Jodie Taylor and England will kick off against Germany at 12:00 PM PT on WatchESPN.

In a windy affair in Columbus, the U.S. came out on top thanks to consistent defensive pressure and pressing (and Rapinoe). It was a level of intensity and focus that fans didn’t really see last year, and it paid off. The soccer wasn’t always pretty — primarily due to the combination of snow, rain and blustering wind — but the 1-0 victory was a fair one for the U.S. Germany had very few good looks on goal.

France, meanwhile, got dismantled 4-1 by England in their first match, which included a lovely run and goal from Jodie Taylor. The wind made things difficult, but France looked jetlagged and sluggish the entire match. This could be due to a few factors. They were missing their most important central defender, Wendie Renard, and they brought and fielded numerous young, inexperienced players.

France has plenty of attacking talent, including Eugene Le Sommer, who was the only player showing any kind of life on Thursday. A combination of speed and tricky, smart runs makes her extremely hard to contain.

I expect France to bounce back, but if the U.S. stays organized and continues its high-press approach, they should walk away with another win.
