Coffee & Valkyries, Episode 17: The One With Theresa Nielsen

Theresa Nielsen came to Seattle because she wanted to take her game to the next level.

As the 2018 season draws to a close, there is still plenty on the line to play for. Having already secured a spot in the playoffs, Seattle Reign FC can still secure second place and the right to host a playoff semi-final next month with a victory over North Carolina Courage in their regular season home finale this weekend. In order to do that, they have to keep their momentum going with organized, composed, and stingy defense against the juggernaut attack that North Carolina possesses. Fullback Theresa Nielsen is a member of Seattle’s defensive unit, and over the course of the season, Reign FC fans have been in awe at the crosses she places into the box. But who is Theresa Nielsen off the field? It’s time to get to know the Denmark international on this episode of “Coffee & Valkyries.”

One of Seattle Reign FC’s strengths this season has been the how strong and deep they are at the defender position. It’s loaded with emerging talent as well as proven stalwarts. Denmark international Theresa Nielsen may be one of the new faces on Seattle, but her resume is an incredibly accomplished one. She joined Seattle fresh off a campaign with her national team, where she was listed in the Best XI for the UEFA Women’s European Championship, because she wanted to take her game to the next level. She is definitely doing that playing alongside some of the league and world’s best in Seattle. Get to know Theresa as she talks about adjusting to the style of play in the NWSL, how she is enjoying Seattle when she’s not on the field, and the special relationship she has with fellow defender Megan Oyster.
