With NWSL pre-season less than a week away, Reign FC added to their roster today with the announcement that the team has signed midfielder Morgan Proffitt for the 2019 season.

“I’m looking forward to working with Morgan this season,” said Reign FC head coach Vlatko Andonovski in a team press release. “She’s a talented player with a lot of potential and I know she’ll be a valuable addition to our midfield.”

Proffitt, a graduate of Marquette University, was selected by the Chicago Red Stars in the 2017 NWSL college draft with the 12th overall pick. She made seven appearances for the Red Stars in 2017, earning 110 minutes of play, but was waived mid-season and subsequently signed by the Washington Spirit. With Washington she also made seven appearances over the 2017 and 2018 seasons, but in June 2018 Proffitt and the Spirit mutually agreed to terminate her contract in order to let her pursue additional playing time in Europe. She most recently played for SK Slavia Praha in the Czech First Division, where she was a regular starter and played every minute in six of Slavia Praha’s UEFA Women’s Champions League matches.

”I am super excited and thankful for the opportunity to play for Reign FC,” said Proffitt in the team release. “The skills and talent of the women on this team is really incredible. I’m looking forward to growing as a player being surrounded by the best, being led by quality coaches, and playing in first class facilities. Reign FC has been so successful in the past and I hope to help us bring home a championship this season. I can’t wait to get started!”

Proffitt joins a deep midfield group of Allie Long, Rumi Utsugi, Jess Fishlock, Elise Kellond-Knight, and Morgan Andrews. But at 5’ 10”, she brings extra height to the midfield, is a true defensive midfielder that could allow her partners in the midfield to push higher, and she has the ability to drop to the defensive line and provide depth at centerback as well. She could be some critical depth when the team loses players to the World Cup.
