With eight players now departed for the World Cup and the injury bug continuing to hit the club, Reign FC brought in another player to bolster their attack. On Thursday, the club announced the signing of forward Addison (Addie) Steiner as a National Team Replacement Player.
The forward joins Reign FC from KIF Örebro in the Damallsvenskan, the top league in Sweden. Steiner played a key role in helping the club win promotion to the first division in 2018, scoring 13 goals in 26 appearances in the Elitettan, Sweden’s second division. She scored one goal in seven Damallsvenskan matches this year. According to a KIF Örebro press release, Steiner is joining Reign FC on a two-month loan while the Damallsvenskan takes a World Cup break.
Steiner was a preseason invitee for Reign FC in 2017. She didn’t make the roster due to the slim number of spots open that season, but for a brief time was a reserve player. The Kansas native went on to play as a reserve for FC Kansas City, where Vlatko Andonovski was still coach, before making the jump to Sweden. Steiner played for Östersunds DFF in the Elitettan in 2017, scoring five goals in 12 appearances.
“Addison is a player who has put in good performances in Sweden,” Andonovski said. “She’s been challenging herself overseas and I think she will be a good fit for our club.”
The 24-year-old finished her college career at the University of Hawaii, where she was a first team All-Big West selection and was named to the NSCAA All-West Region First Team as a senior in 2016. Steiner transferred to Hawaii from Northwestern. She scored 27 goals and added 11 assists across 79 collegiate appearances.
“I feel extremely fortunate to be given the opportunity to join Reign FC and to take this next step in my soccer career,” Steiner said. “I’m looking forward to competing with, growing and learning from such high caliber players and coaching staff. I’m eager to see what Reign FC is all about.”
With Steiner’s signing, Reign FC now have 19 players available for selection heading into Monday’s home match against the North Carolina Courage. That includes Jess Fishlock, who returns from her loan to Lyon in France, where she just earned a Champions League trophy. That Memorial Day game kicks off at Cheney Stadium at 4 PM PT.
