Reign FC traded draft picks today for the opportunity to move back into the first round of the 2020 NWSL College Draft, which will take place next Thursday in Baltimore. They acquired the 9th overall pick from the Chicago Red Stars in exchange for Reign FC’s third round pick in the 2020 draft and their first round pick in the 2021 draft.
Chicago had previously acquired Reign FC’s natural first round pick in the 2020 draft (#5 overall) in exchange for an international slot for 2019, and had acquired the 9th overall pick from North Carolina earlier this week as part of a package deal with the 18th pick, which sent the 6th overall pick to the Courage.
In addition to this first-round pick, Reign FC have the 33rd overall pick in the fourth round. The draft will be broadcast live beginning at 8 AM PT on Thursday, January 16 on the NWSL website, Facebook and YouTube channels, with commentary and analysis from Marisa Pilla, Lori Lindsey, Jen Cooper and Jordan Angeli.
Ride of the Valkyries has reached out to the Reign for an update on the timing for a new coach and plans for roster moves. We will share updates as we confirm them.
