The tiny dragon has extended her stay in the Pacific Northwest, as Reign FC announced today that Jess Fishlock has signed a new two-year deal that will see her stay with the team through 2021. The Welsh international has played 126 matches to date for the Reign.
“Bringing Jess back for 2020 was one of our key priorities this offseason,” said Reign FC CEO Bill Predmore in a team release. “She has been an incredibly important part of this squad and continues to deliver great performances when we need them. Despite only playing a handful of matches for us last season, Jess demonstrated the quality and leadership she brings when she is on the pitch. We are thrilled to have her back.”
Fishlock has been a staple of the Reign in every year of their existence and has been named to the NWSL Best XI four times and Second XI once. Following a UEFA Champions League winning campaign with Olympique Lyonnais during the 2018-19 NWSL off-season, she returned the Reign and scored three goals and one assist in June, which earned her NWSL Player of the Month honors. Sadly, she tore her ACL against the Utah Royals at the end of June. Since that time she has been fully focused on recovery and rehabilitation.
“Returning to Reign FC was an easy decision for me,” said Fishlock in the release. “I am excited for the future of this club and I wanted to be a part of that. Throughout my whole rehabilitation process, Reign FC has been so supportive and helpful in ensuring that I get the best medical care possible. I will forever be grateful and hope I can repay that when I get back to full fitness.”
