Coming off a standout September that saw four OL Reign players named to the NWSL Team of the Month, the Reign hope to keep their hot streak going when they take on the Chicago Red Stars this afternoon. The home match kicks off at 4 PM PT at Cheney Stadium and will stream on Paramount+ for fans in the U.S. and Twitch for international viewers.
The game will jumpstart another set of matches in quick succession for OL Reign, as the club travels down I-5 to face Portland on Wednesday before returning to take on the Washington Spirit next Saturday. While there will likely be squad rotation over the three games, expect a full-strength squad today — with the only exception being Megan Rapinoe, who remains out with a hamstring injury. She looks likely to return for Portland, however.
OL Reign defender Lauren Barnes noted in a pre-match press conference that players on both squads intend to gather at the center circle in the 6th minute for a minute of silence to draw attention to the need to protect NWSL players in light of The Athletic’s story about Paul Riley’s sexual coercion and verbal abuse, along with issues of verbal abuse at the Washington Spirit. Six minutes reflects the six years it took for Riley to face consequences after the league first became aware of the accusations.
At the time of kickoff, OL Reign sits second on the league table, holding an 11-7-2 record. Chicago are in 6th with an 8-7-5 record, with just three points separating 3rd and 7th place at the moment.
What to Watch
