Brian Schmetzer discusses challenges of coaching while social-distancing

It’s as tough as you probably imagine.

Like most of us, Seattle Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer is practicing social-distancing. Unlike most of us, Schmetzer is having to figure out how to coach a group of soccer players without being in the same place as them.

During our interview over Zoom — in which the head coach showed off a virtual background of the team celebrating MLS Cup — Schmetzer said that he and his fellow coaches seem to be managing about as well as could be expected. He did, however, admit that it’s been a bit more challenging for some of the players, especially those of whom don’t have much family here with them.

These are obviously unprecedented times for everyone and it was interesting to see how Schmetzer is handling all of it.
