Get ready for The Yachtcon II

New, 8 comments

The much anticipated sequel to last year’s debut event will be held on Feb. 12.

When we did the first YachtCon last year, we really didn’t know if we’d ever do another. Although we raised about $3,500 for the PBMU at Seattle Children’s, it was a ton of work and sucked up a lot of bandwidth.

As this season was heading toward the finish line, we started getting a lot of questions about bringing it back. But after the Sounders won their first-ever MLS Cup, we felt it was practically our duty.

Part of why we had resisted in the first place, though, was that we didn’t want to do it just to do it. We wanted to make it special. We’re still finalizing the list of panelists, but we already feel comfortable in saying that we think we’re going to improve upon the 2015 version.

Here’s the details we can share so far:

The event will be on Feb. 12 from 12:30-4 p.m. at Queen Anne Beerhall. Tickets will cost $5 in advance or $7 at door. You can buy tickets online (here) or in person (and save processing fees) from Queen Anne Beerhall and sponsors Constellation & Co. and Full Pull Wines.

All proceeds from ticket, raffle and merchandise sales will be donated to the Autism Center at Seattle Children’s, who will also be making a short presentation. You can donate directly to them here.

There will be two panels. One of them will feature legendary UW women’s coach Lesle Gallimore and Seattle Reign players Haley Kopmeyer and Lindsay Elston. The other panel will feature some Sounders personnel, including Stefan Frei and Garth Lagerwey. We can tell also you that we’ll have a pre-recorded interview with Cristian Roldan, and that he plans to be in attendance.

There’s going to be a photo booth where you can pose with the MLS Cup trophy as well as all sorts of silly props, including a four-foot tall captain’s wheel. Plus, we’ll have an ascot-tying demonstration, free Top Pot Doughnuts and a raffle where the grand prize will be a yacht cruise around Seattle as well some soccer memorabilia and a custom poster designed by MLS Watercolorist. The Nos Audietis crew will also do their own Q&A session.

In addition to all of this, MLS Watercolorist has designed a custom poster that we’ll be selling along with ascots and shirts. The ascots are in our possession and you can order them here. The shirts can be ordered here.

The entire thing will also be live-streamed by Bootstrapper Studios, in case you can’t be there in person.

There’s a website and Facebook event page set up if you’d like to keep up to date on everything.

Last year’s event was a ton of fun and we honestly believe that this year’s will be even better. If you missed it, here’s a video of the entire thing.
