Sounder at Heart has learned through two secondary sources that Yossi Benayoun has interest in playing in Major League Soccer and that the Seattle Sounders were told of that interest. Benayoun is in the final few months of his loan to West Ham United and full contract with Chelsea. At 32 years old Benayoun meets the concept of a pre-retirement move.
He recently suffered an injury to his knee/thigh recently, but even prior to the injury was not playing often for West Ham. In recent years he's been more of a squad player trying to find time through loans, but in 09/10 he had six goals in 19 starts and 11 sub appearances for Liverpool.
Benayoun was on the Chelsea tour of America this summer. He started the match in Seattle and in the All Star Game. In the All Star Game he completed 25 of 27 passes in 45 minutes while mainly working on the left side. Against Seattle the many dozen capped Israeli was 18 for 21 also in 45 minutes but from the right.
Sounder at Heart is not aware whether there is interest from MLS sides in Benayoun.
