Report: Everton currently leads Clint Dempsey loan sweepstake

Another week another leader in the "which EPL team will take Dempsey on loan" contest.

This week's update says that Everton is the leader for the temporary services of Clint Dempsey during the winter. Sports Direct News has the exclusive;

However, the 30-year-old is said to be most tempted by a move to Everton, who are performing well this season under Roberto Martinez.

The same site has previously said that Fulham (1) and Tottenham (2) were the leaders. The use of "is said" without an accompanying noun is very English, but also damages the ability to assign significant credibility. Other reports have had West Ham and other clubs. Getting to Everton would put Clint on a team gunning for a spot in Europe (they are currently in 7th) so should bolster his cachet.

It's apparent that he's going to wind up somewhere for some length of time. At this point a story every couple of days that assigns a team to him wouldn't be a surprise. It isn't quite as ridiculous as Dempsey Mad Libs, but that's mainly because there are only 20 teams in the EPL.
