Due to the Discovery process the Seattle Sounders were able to obtain something for nearly nothing. Having claimed Mikael Silvestre first Seattle needed to be compensated for their right of first refusal to sign the defender. The Portland Timbers sent the Sounders a first round Supplemental Draft pick in 2014 and a conditional draft pick in 2015.

For those keeping track at home the Sounders have the following picks in 2014;

Their own first round pick

Chivas USA's second round pick (for rights to Joseph)
Their own second round pick

Portland's first pick in the Supplemental Draft (for rights to Silvestre)
They do not have their own pick in the same round (sent to Vancouver when acquiring Burch)

In 2015

Their own first round pick

Chivas USA's second round pick
Their own second round pick

They are now involved in three conditional pick swaps. They are sending a conditional pick to Salt Lake for Mario Martinez and a conditional pick to Toronto for Marcus Hahnemann. Both are reportedly for 2014 picks based on playing time situations. Portland is sending Seattle a pick in 2015, against for Silvestre.

The number of picks in 2014 is down one now while in 2015 they will have an extra two picks.
