Report: Levante defender Sergio Ballesteros in sights of Sounders, Fire and Cosmos

The latest "Levante to America" gains clarification as a two decade pro looks to two MLS sides and NASL upstart New York Cosmos for his final year or so of play.

Just a few days ago Sergio Ballesteros was looking to come to America. Now a report in Spain indicate that the Levante man is targeted by three teams - Seattle Sounders FC, Chicago Fire and the New York Cosmos. At this point it may need to be assumed that every Levante player out-of-contract or being sold will be linked to Seattle.

Almost certainly Ballesteros only has a year or two left in his legs, but wants to experience a different culture after playing his two decades in Spain. Like many Europeans on their last legs he looks to America. In this case the appeal of MLS's regular pay schedule or the Cosmos' brand cache are a clear draw. Unlike most players connected to the league he is making it clear he will take a pay cut in order to fit into the cap here.

But Ballesteros has baggage. He was one of the players accused of throwing a match with Levante last year. The allegations were never proven, but that is a cloud that hangs over players once accused.

This is not the first Spanish league player connected with the Cosmos either. They are quite aggressive in that market signing two players already.
