Have Sounders already offered Didier Drogba a lucrative contract?

Reports out of Turkey on the status of the former Chelsea star vary, but all agree that Seattle talked to Drogba. One even has details of a 1.5-year, 6 million euro offer.

The rumor that won't go away just received another big boost when at least one Turkish site reported that the Seattle Sounders have made a lucrative offer to Didier Drogba.

Per Google translate

"I got an offer from the team in Seattle, USA. They give 6 million euros. Fri-Booms stayed in, but I'd like to euro 9 million for 1 +1 year," he said.

* Fri-Booms?[ED: the original was "Cim-Bom", which is one of Galatasaray's nicknames, so he's saying he'd stay in Turkey for the right offer] [Additional side note: Bing's translator left Cim-Bom alone]

The details on the offer are that the current potential deal is for a season and a half with some signing bonuses and guaranteed money.

There are also reports that New York Red Bulls are interested.

Drogba's time at Galatasaray looks to be done. His relationship with the team is souring. While he may be using MLS as leverage to stay there it seems unlikely since he is not getting along with management.

Currently Galatasaray sit in third in the league and are a virtual lock for at least the Europa League. The club is six points out of first with 13 matches to play. Galatasaray's season ends just about two weeks after the MLS transfer window closes, leaving open the possibility that Drogba could head to the United States before the World Cup (the MLS transfer window just opened on Feb. 12). Galatasary play Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League next week.

The mechanics of adding an 8 Million dollar Designated Player contract onto a squad that already has three DPs are unknown. With at least one report quoting Drogba on the size of the contract offer it is something that needs to be figured out soon.
