Sounders FC increasingly connected with acquisition of Jose Miguel Cubero

Earlier reports of the Costa Rican midfielder joining Seattle are reinforced as his move seems imminent. One social media outlet even claims he already signed and will be training in Seattle on Thursday.

Herediano midfielder and Costa Rican National Team player Jose Miguel Cubero started getting connected to a move to Seattle Sounders FC just a week ago. This weekend two additional reports emerged. The first indicates that he is either going to become a Sounder or head to Belgium. The second says that he will be in Seattle on Thursday.

Both agree that he will be playing for Costa Rica on March 5th.

He is under contract, so a transfer fee or no-fee loan is required to get his services. All indications are that Sounders FC is cap compliant at this time, but their cap space is somewhere around 150-200k. It seems unlikely that Cubero could fit in that space with a transfer fee. Maybe (speculation), he is one of the new "special discovery signings" for players that would be near DP levels and whose contracts are held by the league. Although Cubero is 27, so that seems unlikely as well.

Jose Miguel Cubero played 90 minutes in Herediano's 2-0 win over Limon on Thursday the 27th of February. He's started 27 matches in league play this season and for his career earned 959 CCL minutes. With his National Team he has 1 goal in 6 starts and 3 sub appearances totaling 608 minutes during World Cup Qualifying.
